hi all
not quiet a question but like to share with you guys
i finally went for my first real spirited drive up the mountain, and after an hour hard driving i found the car react quicker or has quicker response and it is even smoother than b4, also i read a while a go that its normal for the rx8 to have a small pop in the exhaust every 20sec or so while on idle. my car wasnt doing this b4 and after the drive its doing it. so might be the car now has got rid of the carbon build up, maybe?

Rotaries actually like a good thrashing and normally run smoother and better afterwards :D

Some pops from the exhaust is also a good sign 8)

The car really doesn't start doing much until 4,000rpms and 6,000-9,000rpms is where the fun is to be had

The rev limiter will cut in at 9,400rpm but you should really be changing when it beeps at 8,500rpm and no later then 9,000rpm 8)

That's what first gear is for

Take off slowly in first and ensure there is a big gap in front of you and then floor it :!:

First gear does 60kms which should be allowed on most roads you travel I'm sure. Second gets a bit tricky as redline will easily take you to 100kms :?

Have fun,
Will

Personally I use an entrance to a freeway as my time to blow out the cobwebs. Nothing says you have to be going 100 straight away so I tend to keep it in 2nd until I am on the freeway itself and have a clear run and then redline it and change to third, give it a squirt and then go straight to 6th.

The best to do it legally in NT.... end of 3rd gear is still bearly legal.

That will be a long drive for us.

Yes I can verify for more than 20 times that after a track day, the engine feels better.

yup. grannies should not drive rotaries. They need revs to make and maintain power. Driving one with baby gloves or constant low rpm/high load isnt ideal, its just not in the engineering design.

Let alone Carbon-ing up the engine...if you drive any rotary at or below 3000 RPM all the time you will kill it, you have to redline..or near it at least twice every time you drive it...ONLY WHEN ENGINE IS HOT!

Thats exactly what I do. There is a freeway on ramp near my house and after I ash the car I take it for a rap down the ramp onto freeway and do a long lap around the block to blow out the cobwebs(my wife has recently asked if I could refrain form the carbon blowout drive when she is in the car-there is a good reason women have a longer life expectancy than men).

agreed, in radelaide the entrance to the southern expressway is a great place to give it a squirt, straight out of a roundabout in second, into the entrance and wham top out in 3rd and slowly through the gears back into sixth... man i love the sound of 8000rpm
