I used to be a Meguires Mothers warrior also. So much money wasted on inferior quality products. You will be amazed what any pro level or boutique level products can offer for ease, life and looks.

Finally got around to replacing the faulty cooling fan in my 8. Still haven't started her since Feb, might get a chance to over the next few days.

getting pretty good at dismantling the front end even when suffering from the dreaded man Flu

Reconnected the battery and took her for a drive to test out the replacement fan.

Didn't even get a temperature over 80 degrees :-)

Installed Ric Shaws fan control cooling kit. Was previously getting temps of up to 101C, averaging about 95C. After the installation of the kit, temp sits around the 82-86C area.

Such awesome value for money, I would suggest every rx8 owner have this kit for their car.

After almost a fortnight of work, I finally finished the latest service and repair. Required removal of sump and front plate to replace the OMP drive shaft, as the internal shaft had slid inside the outer sleeve, replacement of purge solenoid to clear a CEL, flush coolant, new oil and filter.

Front pulley bolt took a bit of effort, tried a prybar and a friend but got nowhere. Ended up locking an old starter motor to lock the flywheel and then could do it myself.

Got it all back together, ran fine but kept getting a misfire CEL. Swapped plugs, then leads, then coils all with spares I had but didn't fix it. Then I remembered because I'd touched the timing wheel I needed to reset the ecu with the 20 brake stomp, all sorted finally.

Good to have it back on the road.

Yep the cooling fan mod is awesome, I also put in a mishimoto racing 76 deg thermostat which drop the temps further.

Is it deteriorated and turning white? You need to clean it all really well with an All Purpose Cleaner like Simple Green or Bowdens Own Agent Orange. Give it a good scrub with a stiff brush staying away from paint and rubber. Follow with a silicone and wax free protectant. If its deteriorated then you will need a restoration product like Solution Finish. I love Angelwax Elixir topped with Angelwax Corona but for ease of use, Solution Finish is a very long lasting, non greasy easy to apply restorer with protectant perfect for keeping the black stuff black. Especially the exhaust shrouds that cop all the heat.

Got 4 1/2 years out of my Yellow Top battery but it was getting sluggish on start up so treated myself to a new Red Top. All good now

Im using a Bosch battery. 1 year on at the moment and still going well. Century lasted 3 years and Panasonic standard battery lasted 4.

Always good to get on top of things before they become a real problem.

I changed my gearbox oil today. The weather outside was bad so I managed to be productive in the garage.

Installed an underdrive pulley set today. Kept the stock alternator pulley as it was larger than the new one, if I notice it struggles to charge i'll swap it. I also cleaned the starter motor which made a massive difference to the cranking rpm. Commutator looked pretty dodgy so gave it a clean with some fine sandpaper, brushes and bushes were still good condition so left them.
