engine rebuilds and issues....

Post by channi89 » Thu May 08, 2014 11:47 am

Hi,
I got my rx8 03 last year in Sept and had nothing but trouble since... I'm just wondering if anyone know someone who can do pretty cheap rebuilds for my baby. It's really low on conparshion but when I start when it's cold it's fine but once I get to my destination and try and start again it takes ages to start over, and just wants to die most of the time. Once it's driving it's killer. I've had the coils, coil pack, leads and plugs done. Had heaps of test done on it and all came back good. Also in summer if I put the A/C con is runs really bad and don't wanna idle at all. I'm to scared to drive it like it is because I don't wanna leave it on the side of the road.... helped please :)

Where are you? Melb? Syd? Bros?

And you need to get cheap out of your head. Cheap and rebuild don't go well together.

I live in S.A, I've had a few quotes for a rebuild and one guy quoted us $12,000 if he has the car or about $6,000 or $7,000 if I take out the motor myself. I get mechanic work from Brentons Mechanical. A lot of people I have spoken to laugh at me as soon as I say RX8 :'(

SA is VisRotary isn't it? Or is it JCRacing?
Fellow Rotor fans gather now for our daily prayer.....

As I lay rubber down the street,
I pray for traction I can keep,
But if I spin and start to slide,
Please dear god protect my sweet ride.

Amen

Give Paradise Mazda a call, request a quote for them to remove the motor and send to Mr.Mildren for
the rebuild. Alternatively give REV's a call requesting the do same - but all in house. No half measures as Zoom has already stated.
Similar to if you were to spend $50 on a cheap hooker, you'll wake up itchy regretting it for a long time to come, all hyper thetical of course.
Remember no kissing either.

Mazworx is another contender in the rotary engine building game

I have never heard anything about Brentons with Rotors....

Like John said, give Paradise Mazda a call and see what it will be for them to take it out and have Mildren do the rebuild or speak to Jason at REVs.

$12k does seem a bit high if it is a standard rebuild. Circa $8k for a standard build and $10k-$12k for something that is balanced and dowled with some extras ready for forced induction would be at the upper limit...

My full rebuild receipts came to $9400 done by Mildren as a comparison (and mine is a bit of a beast lol)

Nathan how long did it take Mildren to do your rebuild?

From what Jason has told me in the past it takes himself a while.

He is not the quickest but he has a long and well documented history of building great rotary engines.

I would say it should take 4 to 7 weeks depending on who pulls out and puts in the engine.
