Service Experiences and Costs

Post by timbo » Wed Apr 12, 2006 6:33 pm

Thought it might be helpful to kick these off in each State, so that people can post their experiences -- good and bad -- and also provide some guidance on the cost of servicing the 8 at various stages.

Please do not defame anyone. If you had a problem, just state the facts

Looking at all the workshops in Adelaide I have to say that I like the look and the service at Paradise...however I think they are all much of a muchness.

Mildren Automotive is also worth a look if you want anything radical, they are good guys and honest and just hanging to get more Rx8's to work on.... my 2c worth anyway..
Sadly my rotor days are coming to an end.....gone back to the piston dark side..... Will fuel ever be below $1 a litre again?

10,000km costs...

Post by RotorConvert » Mon May 29, 2006 6:32 pm

Ok here is the deal...

Phoned all the dealers here in metro area.....and came up with a variety of costs and info for the service.

Paradise cost is $245 they use Mazda Rotor oil
City cost is $185 they use Castrol Magnatec synthetic oil
Australian - Wayville $205 they use Mazda Rotor oil

Not sure what the price difference between Paradise and Australian is for considering they both use the same oil.....?? Not sure where Max will go at the moment.....but would prefer to save myself $40 and will try and get Paradise to match the Australian $$.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum so i apologise in advance if i possess insufficient knowledge!

I own a 2006 rx8 and i'm about to book it in for a 25,000km service.
Any guide on cost in Adelaide?
Also, has anybody tried to get the various Adelaide dealers to price match? If so, did you have any luck?

Cheers,
Mitch

Hi Guys i recommend Steve from JAZMAC Performance in Mount Barker if anyone is around the hills. i can't remember off the top of my head what type of oil he uses but it burns perfectly fine and is a mineral oil i only got charged $130 for a service last time. Also got some other work done and he was cheap and does a top job. He specialis' in Mazda Rotary's so he has plent of experience behind him.

Hey guys,

Just had a minor service done at City Mazda. Work was done on time and at a reasonable price (was going to be $315 with MRO but provided my own oil so $220).
Asked them to do an alignment and fix the steering wheel as it was off centre when driving straight, I think the alignment was fixed but wheel is still off centre. Also, they told me to urgently replace the 2 front tyres as the inner edges were "bald" - they have between 2.5 and 3mm tread left across the face! Also tried to sell an injector clean for $80 because "all RX8's need it at every service" - politely told them to keep it. The day after the service I noticed a wheel centre cap missing! They ordered a new one for me free of charge which was good of them. A couple of days later again I noticed they had replaced the front tyres the wrong way around - changed them back myself.
So overall pretty disappointed. What was a $220 service could've been around $1300 if I had done everything they recommended. Unfortunately I live on the other side of town to them so servicing there is a pain, however I have to go there for the warranty. In the past I've asked RX8 specific advice from them and they don't seem to have much idea. I would hate to be a non-car person having my car serviced with them. I've used Mildrens in the past for another Mazda and would be happy to use them again.

Cheers,
Hamster

Why is that

If it is the standard Mazda warranty I believe you can go to any Mazda Service Centre you choose...................

That's true but it's out of Mazda warranty, this is an aftermarket warranty through the dealer unfortunately!

Hi Guys,

Car Toys on Port Road do servicing. Lots of people don't know that they do servicing but they do. You would be getting your car serviced by car enthusiasts, who know what they are doing. Im booked in for my first service there next week but everything I have heard is really positive.

They have a loyalty card which gives you a free service after 4-5 services. Services start at $125 and they let you use whatever oil etc you want.

Careful though! They are a one stop mod shop so iis very tempting to spend big!! I walked in for car cover and ended leving with $200 of car products!!!... But damn my car shines!!

i got my rx8 booked-in at the port road city mazda place for $345, but i'll provide my own oil, so we'll see how much they bump it down by.
however, from reading Hamster's post above, i hope they know what they're doing and dont mess up anything with my car, cuz i'm at uni and i dont have extra money or time to spend on 3rd hand jobs.
If car toys did log-book servicing, id go there all the time. all their products are so tempting ! plus one of the guys there used to have an Rx8 that he recently sold for a V35.

I'd give mildrens a go - just down the road in thebarton.

I've never been a fan if taking my car to a mechanics but since going to mildrens couldn't be happier. They specialise in rotaries and know exactly what their doing.
