Final Nats Preparations

Post by MACCAA » Mon Aug 08, 2011 2:18 pm

OK not long to go now,so.......
Check ALL fluid levels in your car.
Water,brake,oil.
I've seen cars lose engines at Track days purely because they didn't check the oil level, and no,if the oil light's not on doesn't mean it's OK.Check on the dipstick as per the Manual.Bringing some spare is a good idea.
Check your brake pads.On standard wheels you can do a pretty good visual.
Had to put new pads in a GT3 at Bathurst at Easter 'cause he hadn't checked-yet he drove down from QLD on them....
Have a full tank of fuel when you arrive.
Before Scrutineering take EVERYTHING loose out of the car-including the boot.Cars will not be allowed out on the Track with stuff floating around inside them.
Tyre pressures-most road tyres start at around 40lb COLD and adjust to suit at the Track when hot.
Most semis work best at around 34lb HOT.
We can advise on the day to help you.
Be on time.We have a schedule to run to and can't wait for people still in Goulburn having brecky....There is checking in,scrutineering,Track walk,Driver's briefing, all of which take time.
Finally, remember that this is a fun day,and drive accordingly.
Don't try and set lap records in the first session.
There will be no passing other than in a straight line[no outbraking or passing around corners]at designated places to be advised in the briefing.
If another car catches you, when you come to the straight bits, LET THEM BY.AS most RX8's are pretty stock BACK OFF the gas a bit to let them by.If you don't it's pretty hard to get past as the straight line speed is all the same.
This is not a Race meeting,so no groups jostling nose to tail. There will be plenty of space on the Track to give everyone plenty of space.
Anyone not following this system will be black flagged off the Track.
Safety is the number one priority and no breaches will be tolerated.
Have fun but safely.
Cheers
Len

Thanks for that, never hurts to double check.

Just received an e-mail from the RENEW vice presedent explaining how the day will unfold & what we need to do. All very helpful.
He mentioned CAMS licenses & fire extinguishers. Please reassure me that we get an AASA license on the day & therefore don't need an extinguisher,

Just a quick question, is it permitted to have different types of tyres front/rear? Feeling a bit silly that I didn't check this earlier..

Paul: Generic template email. We are recommended fire extinguishers but not required. And yes, we can get AASA license.

Michael: Can't see a problem with it, so long as they are both road legal

Thank goodness I just read this post as I was trying to figure out how to mount the fire extinguisher.

Car is ready semi slicks a bit worn (same as last years) however, it should be ok for this meet. Picking up 4L of oil for top ups and also another 20L can for spare fuel, she is a bit thirsty now.

Strapped down on the seat itself? Remember it has to be secure as the G forces on the corners are quite high.

I don't really know how to describe it but I found some holes on the seat and just attached a bracket, fells secure.

And check the wheel nuts.
Jumped in a car at Morgan Park that had a bad vibration.Made the owner stop immediately[he was still driving flat out....]
Front wheel nuts were finger tight[ie NOT]
Turns out he'd had the wheels off earlier in the week.
I've been in cars with loose wheels that had been to a tyre service in the past week.
Even if nothing has been touched on your car,CHECK THE WHEEL NUTS.
See you Saturday.Don't be late.
Cheers
Len
