We just had to replace both rear shocks on our 2005 model with 31 000 ks. They were both leaking. Is this a common fault or are we just lucky.

Hi Zoom

We bought the car new from Mgrath Liverpool - with extended warranty. They told us Mazda has a lifetime warranty on replacement parts.

We had to pay for the shocks to be replaced ($998) - tried to get help from Mazda HQ but they didnt care , even though we had a proper service record.

I could have got a 4 wheel total suspension kit from pedders for $2000 fitted.

Looks like I was unlucky to. My 2006 model with 42000k's has a leaking rear left shock.

Mazda dealer recommended replacing both, $350 ea, even though right rear is ok.

Do you think its a good idea to replace both after only 42k or is it ok to just replace 1?
Should I consider another option to the original shocks for replacement?

Thanks,

Mazdaspeed!

Actually at $350 each, I'd say get it done. Might as well get two new rear shocks now. Aftermarket ones tend to be a bit more expensive, and the OEM ones are pretty good in my opinion :thumbright:

Barely... in Oz the Konis are $800ish for the rears and $900ish for the fronts plus about $500 for labour to fit all 4 - I know I just did it!

you CAN get a set of 4 Konis from the US at about $US700 plus postage - which of course is the way I SHOULD have bought the things.
