MSCAV PI Come Try Track Day

Post by Kev13B » Sat Aug 29, 2015 1:43 pm

Thought I would post this up for any one in vic wanting to get out on the track again. Generation and myself attended a 'come try day' the weekend before the 2015 nationals.
This is a cheap day and you get 2 instructed sessions and 2 solo sessions. There isn't any timing so bring a gps if you want to time yourself.

If a few enter than i'll organize a cruise/meet down there.

The MSCA All Come and Try Day structure provides Sprint Day experience, with both formal and on-track instruction and training. We use experienced drivers who will act as trainers and mentors for the participants throughout the day.

Participants attend three information sessions covering a general drivers’ briefing, driving techniques and other relevant matters in a classroom setting. In between the classroom sessions participants have two on-track runs with an experienced driving instructor. Then 2 solo runs to complete the day’s fun.

Participants are provided with a Come and Try Manual before the event, to familiarise themselves with the vehicle requirements, and what they need to bring on the day.
Our Club and Trade Display area will provide information about MSCA Car Clubs, Grassroots racing categories, performance tyres and lubricants, race and safety equipment, and track insurance.

A final treat will be the special appearance by ex V8 Super Car driver and CAMS General Manager of Motorsport development Cameron McConville. Cam will be there to assist with driver instruction and to discuss all things Motorsport.

I highly recommend these Come and Try days. As Kev said, we both attended one a few weeks ago, and it was a really great experience to learn from and listen to advice from people who have been racing their whole lives, and really know their stuff.

How do I go about entering in this?

Also is this rotary cars only? My dad was jealous of us racing around winton and wants to race hes car lol. So if it is possible, we would both like to enter in this.

MSCA (Marque Sports Car Club) runs this event. They have a really simple class system (much simpler than the Victorian Super Sprints Championship) and run all of the Victorian tracks (except Broadford) across 8 rounds. It is a Championship and they hand out trophies for class winners and to championship winners. They are open to any cars and it is race what you bring. Sprint format so no racing for position, just against the clock. For club members that hold a cams ls2 licence, sprints normally cost $220 including timing gear. They also run regularity which is points for getting as close as you can to your nominated time, but penalties for going faster than your nominated time. So quite often slower cars do better than faster cars.

So CAMS ls2 licence $120 per year, Club membership $80 per year then $220 per round. Race Winton, Calder Park, Sandown, Phillip Island, Haunted Hills.

The only issue that I have is that I generally am the only car in my class, 2l-2.5l Modern. 2l turbo cars end up in 2.5l to 3.5l and there are heaps of under 2l cars. It would be cool if we could have a few cars from the forum get involved so that we can have a bit of a Victorian RX8 championship. We don't have to go to every round, just as long as we are at the same rounds. Check out their website http://www.msca.net.au/

Let me know if you would like to know more or are keen to get involved.

I've entered Phillip Island in December as well so I'll be along for a cruise down. Anyone else planning to enter?

Won't be able to due to work commitments. #$@& it.
Fellow Rotor fans gather now for our daily prayer.....

As I lay rubber down the street,
I pray for traction I can keep,
But if I spin and start to slide,
Please dear god protect my sweet ride.

Amen
