Have you sorted springs out yet chileanbastard?

Hi

Can you upload some more pics - maybe the look from behind. Im keen to get them but not sure whether it is worth the hassle if i have a crash and the insurance company finds out that they are on there.

Thanks

Spacers and Spray!

Post by Jamee84uk » Thu Jun 16, 2011 9:30 pm

Quick update on the spacers... The front ones only stayed on for about 30 minutes before I took them off... They dint fit properly. The wheel wasn't bolting back flush against the hub, it was sitting in the nuts for the hub which was a bit concerning. I called the company I got the spacers from and explained the situation n they looked into it... Apparently the 15 mm eibach spacers don't fit the standard rx8 wheels?!! Bit odd so i replaced them with 25mm front aswell I'll put up pics soon.

Here I a pic of the spacers not fitting....

Hi James,

I assume you haven't posted a pic yet because you found that the 25mm spacers didn't fit either.

I had the same problem and its not the spacer at all. There is a round aluminium brace around the centre hub. it is not bolted on or anything, its just there to make sure the wheel fits snug. Its made out of the same aluminium as the braces you received with your spacers.

These aluminium braces that came with the spacers 'Replace' the one currently installed. What you did was essentially place the spacer brace on top of the factory brace there by lengthening the spacer hub brace and thus not allowing for a snug fit, as is reflected by that gap between the spacer and wheel.

Your wheel was free floating on the bolt threads for 30 minutes so good job picking this up!

The reason you didn't encounter this with the rear wheels is because they dont have this factory brace present.

I am going to post a pic of the aluminium brace I am talking about!!

15mm does fit everyone so rest assured!!

And yes I did get paint on the disk but I am posting another rotor painting thread that will show thats its no big deal and easy to fix. Im usually not that sloppy.

That's called a hub centric ring, and you will be surprised how many people don't get them when they get wheels, resulting in very poor wheel figment and balance (by today's standards)

Hub centric ring.. smartass!! :)

Ok so I made up the name but this little guy is the cause of the problem. Use hub centric rings provided with spacers. Im actually going to 25mm at the front, and lowering springs. Will post pics when I get it all on!

Digging up an old thread, but I'm interested to know if the 25mm rear spacers rub at all with the S1 stock rims. Is anyone still using this set up? Looking at spacers, s tech's or h tech's and some new shocks (koni or bilstein's). My only thoughts are whether to go 20mm or 25mm on the rear. Will stick with the 15mm's on the front.
Thanks

Thanks Tim33h,
Yeah I've just read through that thread. People on that forum are spectacularly good and contradicting one another. I think I'll go with 20mm on the rear's just for peace of mind. Would love to hear from people who have had experiences with a similar set up, hopefully more recently than 2011!

Keep in mind the way that the spacers work is by by bolting to your stock hub.

The length of the stock wheel studs are about 25mm.
So if you have a 15mm spacer you still have 10mm of stud sticking out, that is why the 15mm didn't fit for Jamee84uk.

The stock RX8 rims have a little bit honed out when you look a the space between the standard lug holes on the back, but its not enough to accommodate the extra length of stud, hence why he got the reply that they wont fit with stock rims. This can be seen in last of Chileanbastard's pictures, where you can see the stock stud sticking through the gap in the rim. S1 rims don't have that gap.

Ah I see what you're saying. So it's basically 25mm or nothing on S1 stock wheels.

What about longer wheel studs? Is that a terrible idea?
